FIRST TIMER?

You've come to the right place. First things, first. When you arrive, don't hesitate to notify your host that it's your first time.

They're trained to acquaint you with the space and how best to enjoy it. Our hosts also periodically check-in throughout your 60-minute session to pour water on the rocks (Löyly), as well as serve a sampling of electrolyte-infused water.

Checkout the video, from one of our sister locations, to acquaint yourself with the flow of your session. Below, is some more information you'll find useful.

what to bring items

What to Bring?

Traditionally, bathhouses are clothing optional. However, at PLUNJ clothing is MANDATORY. We have locker rooms where you can change into swimwear. Things to bring:
- swimwear
- sandals (optional)
- duffle bag (optional)

Sauna hats aren't required, but are available for purchase. Ask our hosts about the benefits!

What's Provided?

Your host will provide each guest with a sauna towel (smaller for placing on bench beneath you) as well as a larger towel (for drying off). Additional towels are available by request.

If your feet get extra cold, and have a hard time warming up, we do have complimentary neoprene foot booties available by request.

You'll also have access to a men / women's locker room that includes multiple areas for showering, and changing. We provide some personal care items (i.e. hair ties, q-tips, shampoos, hair dryer, etc.) for your convenience as well. Each of our studios has complimentary tea and filtered hot/cold water available as well.

How to Get Here?

We're just a few turns off both I-80 (State Street Exit) and I-15 (2100 S Exit). Google and Apple will bring you to our front door, with limited street parking. On the South side of our building is free (we validate) covered garage parking. Find the "24-Hour Visitor Parking" or any un-marked space. There's also plenty of other street, and paved / dirt lot parking nearby. See our guide to parking for more info.

We're also just a couple of blocks from both bus (2100 S, State St) and train (TRAX Central Pointe, S-Line Central Point / South Salt Lake).

Biking via 300 W / Main St for (North-South), and Parley's Trail (East-West) are the best routes.

The Regimen

Nordic rituals are time-tested and are as simple as they are effective. Staying true to the Nordic tradition, we have developed #theregimen. We're certain it will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to PLUNJ through whatever life might have in store for you next. Most important, above all, LISTEN to your own body.

HOT
Drink 1-2 glasses or a bottle of water 30 minutes to an hour before you get into the sauna. Once inside, choose your seat. The top bench is hotter than the bottom bench. The host will pour water on the stones to create löyly (the Finnish word for steam that comes off the hot rocks.) After 5-15 minutes of sweating, move on to step 2.

☞ Use Bucket Shower in-between exiting sauna and entering cold plunge. Helps keep our water crystal clear, without having to use a ton of chemicals.

COLD
Now, onto perhaps the most rewarding, yet challenging piece of the regimen: the PLUNJ. We say "Take the PLUNJ" and we mean it literally. Submersed yourself (up to at least shoulders) and then remaining for 1 - 5 minutes. Take deep breaths. You can challenge yourself, but listen to your body, even walking in and straight out has it's benefits! When you’re ready, move on to step 3.

rest group

REST
Time to relax. Choose a chair, grab a towel, and rest for 3-5 minutes, allowing your body to regulate its own temperature. Take this opportunity to breathe, rehydrate, and prepare for sweating again in the sauna. We have complimentary tea and filtered hot/cold water available in your lounge area.

REPEAT
Run through the sauna, bucket shower, cold plunge, rest... again. And again. Depending on how long you decide to spend in each, most people try to get 2-3 rotations in.

Why One Hour?

Lagom (pronounced [ˈlɑ̂ːɡɔm], LAW-gom) is a Swedish word meaning 'just the right amount' or 'not too much, not too little'.

We've found 60 minutes is just right to experience the benefits (without overdoing it). We invite guests to up their frequency (rather than individual session duration) to enjoy more benefits to contrast therapy.

That's why our memberships are priced in a way that the more you come, the less it costs! Also, would it surprise you to know our 4-times a month membership is called LAGOM? Makes sense, right?

Questions? You're not the only one. Consult our Frequently Asked Questions page or don't hesitate to contact our onsite hosts in advance of your session.

A Third Place

Coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg, a Third Place refers to a social setting outside of home (first place) and work (second place) where people can connect, relax, and build community, such as cafes, bars, parks, libraries, and increasingly (in America) contrast therapy bathhouses.

We were featured in a Salt Lake Sideways article about why we built PLUNJ, and what we hope you'll experience in your visit.

Contrast Therapy is deliberate and safe exposure to extreme temperatures, such as switching back and forth between a sauna and a cold plunge. It provides many physical and mental health benefits.

At PLUNJ Salt Lake, your 60-minute session will be in one of our two studios. Each studio consists of a sauna (comfortably seats 10), a cold pool (comfortably accommodates 6), a bucket shower, several lounge chairs, and a beverage station stocked with tea, water, and some premium drinks. Unless you (or a friend) has booked a private group session, you can expect up to 7 other strangers sharing the space during your same one hour appointment.
