  • What is PLUNJ?
PLUNJ is a Nordic style bathhouse. Locations are open throughout Utah and Idaho, with more to come all across the United States. See plunj.co. Our Salt Lake city bathhouse strives to straddle the line between utility and luxury. You will find that our space, while very well-appointed, is simple in its method as well as in its practice. Patrons have access to a locker room (male / female), as well as a studio area consisting of a large sauna, cold plunge pool, bucket shower, lounge chairs, and beverage station. You're free to experience each on your own timing and rotation. Staying true to the Nordic experience, we recommend a regimen of HOT - COLD - REST - REPEAT. Explore more FAQs for details. • What services do you offer?
Contrast Therapy - a type of treatment done through deliberate and safe exposure to extreme temperatures, such as switching back and forth between a sauna and a cold plunge. Salt Lake's bathhouse has two studios, each consisting of a dry (electric) sauna, cold plunge pool, bucket shower, lounge chairs, and a beverage / refreshment station. While "Hosts" support maintaining a chill and safe environment, you're free to experience the space at your own will. There is not guided process. However, our hosts are happy to answer questions and support. Most guests follow a rotation: start in the sauna for 10-15 minutes, rinse off in a warm bucket shower, spend 30 seconds to 3 minutes in the cold pool, and rest for a few minutes before repeating that process one or two more times. There are also men's & women's locker rooms, each with 2 showers, 2 changing areas, and a toilet room. All are stocked with soap / shampoo and personal care items. Lockers are also for storing any personal items / clothing. Remember to bring your own swimwear!

  • I have a session scheduled today or tomorrow, but I’m not feeling well! What should I do?
If you’re not feeling well, please stay home. We know that the sauna may feel good and might even alleviate your symptoms, but using our public space might endanger the rest of the patrons who use it. Let us know if you can’t make it as soon as possible, and we will work with you to ensure your reservation is taken care of. Click here to read our full cancellation policy.
  • How long should I stay in the cold plunge?
The number one principle or practice to follow is listen to your body! If you begin to shiver in the water, your heart rate is increasing and your breathing will be affected. This is your body telling you it’s time to get out and get warm. Dry off with a towel and allow your body to warm up on its own. Research suggests that you only need to be immersed to the neck in cold water for 30-90 seconds to reap the benefits of brown fat activation, mood-boosting hormones, and improved immune response. In fact, it’s much more effective to do shorter plunges more regularly than it is to do one long plunge. The health department requires we have a hypothermia action plan. When practiced conservatively, there is little risk for hypothermia. However, review the following for signs and actions to take. Step 0: Notify a Host Immediately - If concerned you, or someone in your party, may be experience hypothermia, notify your host immediately. Step 1: Recognize Symptoms and Ensure Safety - Shivering, dizziness, confusion, slurred speech, and slow pulse. - Move to the rest (lounge) area, not the sauna. Step 2: Provide Warmth and Comfort - Remove wet clothing and replace with dry, warm layers. - Use dry blankets and offer a warm non-caffinated beverage - Hosts will check on patrons every 5 minutes to monitor their condition. Step 3: Monitor and Seek Medical Help - Keep a close watch on condition. - Call 911 for severe symptoms or if anyone becomes unresponsive.
  • How long should I stay in the sauna?
The number one principle or practice to follow is listen to your body! Some of the body’s signs of overheating are tingling in the fingers, ears, and skin, and/or hyperventilating. Research suggests that 10-15 minutes at a time in the sauna is optimal, and anything over 19 minutes per session may be too much. Although we can become more habituated and acclimatized to the heat over time, there is a threshold before too much stress is placed on our cardiovascular system or our proteins begin to sustain damage.
  • What health complications would preclude me from participating in sauna or cold plunge?
If you have cardiovascular disease, cardiac arrhythmia, excessively high or low blood pressure, fever, cancer, skin disorders, blood clots, varicose veins, or respiratory infections, the sauna may be more harmful than helpful for you. If you have untreated myocardial hypertrophy, coronary artery disease and/or chest pain, untreated high blood pressure, other cardiovascular health problems or cardiac arrhythmia, it may be best to avoid cold water. Please consult your doctor if you’re not sure whether you should use the sauna or cold plunges. If you are pregnant, please consult your doctor before using the sauna and cold plunges.

  • I see that there’s availability online during the time I want, but it won’t let me book for more than one person. Why is that?
That means that there is only one spot left in the session. You’ll be able to book for as many people as there are spots available. If the "participants" drop down only shows "1", it means the session is nearly full, just one remaining spot. This number of participants in each session is MUCH easier to view when using our Wix Spaces app.
  • How does the waitlist work?
If there is an option to add yourself to a waitlist when booking online, that means the session is full. You can add yourself to a waitlist and if someone cancels their booking during that session, you will receive a text or email notifying you the session has become available. From there, you will have an hour to decide whether you’d like to take the spot before it is given to someone else.
  • I am running late! What should I do?
If you are running late for your assigned time slot, don't stress. Even 55 or 50 minutes is often plenty of time for patrons to enjoy their session. While we typically begin turning over (cleaning) the space at 60 minutes, check with your host for flexibility.

  • How do I add a buddy (guest) to my session?
This is one of the favorite member benefits, bringing friends at a discount! While our website platform (Wix) doesn't fluidly support scheduling a guest, we're happy to assist. Members should call, text, or chat online with one of our hosts to reserve a spot for their guest. Once your guest arrives, they'll be invited to complete payment ($25 for SISU guests, and $30 for LAGOM guests). Reminder that members must be present (in the session) for a buddy / guest to receive discount. Members are also responsible for no-show fees for themselves / guests.
